Andy Warhol, was in attendance with friends ‘who looked like the stablehands’.

At some point between November and January Warhol had become their manager. This would obviously hugely increase their exposure due to Warhol being the countries then most highly paid and controversial artist.

15th January 1966

The Wichita Beacon reports on the infamous Psychiatrists Ball.

And now with Nico joining in with the fun. And John Cale mentioned as ‘the leader’

16th January 1966

The Austin American takes a visit to The Factory and confirms that Warhol is their sponsor.

20th January 1966

The UK’s Daily Telegraph reports on the Psychiatrists Ball, the UK’s first coverage of the band

24th January 1966

Philadelphia Daily News’ ‘International Society’ page reports on Warhol, Edie Sedgwick and the band appearing at The Phone Booth.

25th January 1966

The San Francisco Examiner repeats the above article, as was (and still is) common practice for associated press or agencies.

30th January 1966

And another repeat, this time from the 15th January Wichita Beacon report of the Psychiatrists Ball.

And that was January 1966 for the Velvet Underground. An interesting trajectory with the ‘Warhol sponsorship’. An entry to high society.
