The Velvet Underground Popularity Myth Pt.16 – May 1967

May1967

April was relatively quiet – in comparison to previous months anyway. And so was May.

5th May, St Joseph News album review.

10th May, Connecticut Post and back to NYC.

13th May, San Fransisco Chronicle. The non-musical Velvet Undergroun

14th May. Connecticut Post again.

15th May. Goldsboro News Argus, and another Velvet Underground.

17th May. The Indiana Penn have a feature mentioning a local band covering Velvet Underground songs.

24th May. UK’s Evening Standard. And a slightly misleading story that may conflate the group – The Velvet Underground and the group of friends that constitute The Factory, travelling with Warhol to the EK.

27th May. Lansing State Journal. The huge amount of press afforded the band seems to have mostly run dry in May, and they were in danger of being upstaged in the media by THAT other Velvet Underground.
