August 1967

1st August. The Tribune has one of the (soon to be very frequent) LSD ‘scare stories’ which, unsurprisingly includes a mention of the Velvet Underground. What is surprising though is they don’t seem to be bothered by the over references to heroin but are outraged by a big banana appearing on the cover!

3rd August – The Kansas City Times has a full page advert from Vox including the ‘VU’ listed as groups who use Vox.

11th August – The Signpost has an article on ‘the ‘Generation Gap’

15th August – Intermission: – “Music by the Velvet Underground”

17th August, The Kingston Whig Standard. “Join the Fun”

17th August – Western Daily Press.

An interesting article for a UK newspaper, bemoaning the lack of a UK release of the Banana album (due to come out in November). It should also be noted that the Banana album was available in the UK via import, as was much US Underground Press such as Village Voice.

30th August, Oakland Tribune on Andy and his various recent pursuits (though now distant from the VU).
